A Turkish cargo ship was hit today by three Russian missiles, resulting in the deaths of five sailors, the Ukrainian navy announced.
The fate of the other five crew members is currently unknown.
The transport ship, which was carrying grain, was struck by three cruise missiles „while leaving the combat zone,“ the Ukrainian navy stated on social media, adding that eight people were evacuated to a hospital in Odesa on the Black Sea.
„This is yet another deliberate attack by Russia on an unarmed civilian vessel sailing under a foreign flag, which posed absolutely no military threat. This attack constitutes a terrorist act against peaceful navigation and a serious violation of international humanitarian law,“ the navy said.
The crew included Syrians and Indians, wrote Ukrainian diplomat Andriy Sibiga on the X platform, adding that the casualties included a Ukrainian captain.
„While the world is still reacting to Russia’s brutal overnight attack on Kyiv, Moscow continues its campaign of terror throughout the day,“ the Ukrainian minister added.
