The Canadian government announced today that it will deny entry to all foreign nationals who have been in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the past three weeks in an effort to contain the spread of the Ebola virus, the British agency Reuters reported on its website.
This decision is part of a strengthened plan to limit the risk of importing the disease, authorities said, without providing further details on the exact duration of these restrictions or any possible exemptions.
„As of Monday, July 20, 2026, any foreign national who has been in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the past three weeks will be denied entry to Canada,“ the Public Health Agency of Canada said in a statement.
„Restricting entry for foreign nationals who have been in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the past three weeks could reduce public health risks to which the Canadian population is exposed,“ the statement said.
It is added that the restriction aims to increase the efficiency and sustainability of border measures to ensure the safe processing of travelers arriving in Canada, including humanitarian workers returning home.
