During an official visit to Russia, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui met today with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian media reported.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that Choe Son Hui would visit the country at the invitation of her counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
„I would like once again to express my gratitude for the support being provided to the special military operation we are conducting,“ Putin said, referring to the offensive in Ukraine.
The Russian president said that he would never „forget the feats of Korean soldiers, who will be honored in the same way as Russian compatriots.“
Putin added that he „greatly values the mutual understanding that has been established“ with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Pyongyang has sent several thousand soldiers, along with rockets and ammunition, to support Russia’s war against Ukraine. They have been deployed in Russia’s western Kursk region to push back the Ukrainian army, which had occupied the area for nearly a year, from August 2024 to the end of spring 2025.
In return, according to experts, North Korea receives financial aid, military technology, food, and energy from Russia, allowing Pyongyang to circumvent strict international sanctions imposed due to its banned nuclear programs.
