Kos: Serbia’s progress toward the EU depends on the next government

The European Union expects that the parliamentary elections on October 25 in Serbia will be free, fair, and transparent, in accordance with European and international standards, stated EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos in the European Parliament.

“In the upcoming elections, the citizens of Serbia will have the chance to decide which path they want to take. We expect the elections to be free, fair, and transparent, in accordance with European and international standards,” said Kos.

She stated that on October 28, the European Commission will present its annual enlargement report, which will cover Serbia’s European path.

“Progress remains in the hands of the next Serbian government. I will do everything in my power to ensure that Serbia can advance on its European path,” Kos emphasized.

She stressed that respect for the values of the European Union will remain unquestionable.

Kos highlighted that Serbia’s progress toward the EU is in the common interest and that the European Commission will continue to support Serbia’s European integration.

According to her, the Western Balkan countries have the opportunity to overcome divisions and build a common future, and Serbia must be part of that process.

“We must not turn our backs on Serbia and its citizens who want to live in a free, democratic, and European country,” said the Commissioner.
