Russia will close German cultural centers across the country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced today.
This move comes after Berlin blamed Moscow for an attempted attack on Leipzig-Halle Airport last month and announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn, as well as the Russian House in Berlin.
Lavrov said that the cultural centers of Germany’s Goethe-Institut in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg will be closed.
He stated that any other response would demonstrate a lack of „self-respect.“
Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Lavrov emphasized that Germany „could not have failed to understand“ that closing the Russian House would „mean the end of its cultural presence in Russia.“
