Chinese and French foreign ministers discuss bilateral relations and international issues

At the request of France, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot to discuss bilateral relations and international issues, the China Media Group (CMG) reported today.

Wang, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, emphasized that under the strategic leadership of the presidents of the two countries, relations between China and France have generally developed steadily.

“Faced with a complex and unstable international situation, China and France, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, should strengthen strategic communication and jointly respond to risks and challenges,” Wang said.

Barrot stated that, in the year following French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to China, France and China have fostered the “spirit of Dujiangyan,” which entails engagement and integration, seeking common ground while respecting differences, and maintaining dialogue.

He added that during this period, bilateral relations have generally maintained positive momentum.
