Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that the country’s military struck a large industrial facility in Volgograd, in southwestern Russia, 350 kilometers from the border.
Zelensky wrote on X that FP-5 Flamingo missiles hit the Titan-Barikady plant in Volgograd, „a large industrial complex where Russia produces artillery systems and specialized military equipment, including components for rocket launcher systems.“
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the facility manufactures equipment for missile systems, including self-propelled launchers and vehicles for transporting and loading the Iskander-M missile system, which is described as „the same system that Russia regularly uses to attack Ukrainian cities.“
The governor of the Volgograd region, Andrey Bocharov, confirmed the attack and reported that 10 people were injured and taken to the hospital.
In a separate attack in Ukraine’s Sumy region, a 66-year-old man was killed last night in a Russian drone strike on a private residence, the region’s administrator Oleg Hryhorov said today.
Ukraine has launched large-scale drone attacks on Russia in recent days, while the Kremlin claims it is intercepting hundreds of Ukrainian drones.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated yesterday that Ukraine attacked 12 regions and Crimea the day before.
Zelensky said on Thursday that he had ordered a „40-day influence operation,“ which is believed to mean an escalation of attacks, with the aim of „forcing Russia to end the war.“
