The International Criminal Court (ICC) has protected itself from potential sanctions by the United States of America (USA) against the institution, said Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan in today’s Financial Times (FT).
“We have worked hard to protect the court from the consequences of possible future sanctions,” she told FT, reports Reuters.
The tribunal has reorganized its systems, switching from Microsoft software to the German open-source alternative “openDesk” and finding alternative solutions for health insurance and banking services, Khan said.
According to FT, the court also pays employees’ salaries several months in advance to mitigate disruptions in salary payments.
Reuters previously reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump had prepared sanctions against the entire International Criminal Court and planned to announce them soon.
