European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced today that the European Union (EU) has prepared five million euros in aid for areas affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela, and is also assisting in mapping the damage.
Kallas wrote on X that she spoke with the acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, and conveyed to her „the EU’s full solidarity with the people of Venezuela and deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones.“
Kallas also announced the activation of the European Civil Protection Mechanism and added that „several EU member states have quickly deployed search and rescue teams, firefighters, and medical personnel.“
„The EU’s Copernicus satellite system is supporting emergency services by helping to map the damage and direct aid where it is most needed,“ the statement added.
Kallas concluded that „Europe stands with Venezuela in this time of distress.“
In two major earthquakes in Venezuela this week, according to the latest official figures, 1,430 people have died and more than 68,000 are missing.
