European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated today in Dublin that current events in Serbia could affect its path toward European Union membership, including the repatriation of the remains of former Republika Srpska Army commander Ratko Mladić, convicted of genocide, to Belgrade and what will happen in the coming days.
„A lot is happening in Serbia at this moment, we are monitoring everything and all of it could influence how member states assess Serbia,“ Kos told reporters upon arrival at the informal meeting of EU ministers for European affairs in Dublin.
Kos emphasized that it is not only about the technical part of the accession process, but especially about how Serbia aligns with European values and with the EU’s foreign and security policy.
„The repatriation of Ratko Mladić’s remains and what will happen in the coming days will be a very important test,“ Kos said.
