European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated today that Serbia will have to do more in the process of joining the European Union and that she will see how the future government will act in this regard.
Presenting the European Commission’s plan to prepare the EU for future enlargement before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Kos said that Serbia is not among the most advanced countries that will receive special roadmaps in the EU accession process.
“Serbia will have to deliver more. We will see the seriousness of their government after the elections, if they do not just talk about wanting to become a member but actually work on it, especially in terms of strategic alignment and harmonization with the common foreign and security policy,” Kos said.
When it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kos said she hopes that after the elections they will continue on the path to the EU, if political leaders are serious about continuing the accession process.
“A roadmap only makes sense if the car is moving, it makes no sense when it is standing still. We need to do everything to get the car moving,” Kos said, noting that reforms are the main fuel for the engine that drives the car.
European Commissioner yesterday announced that on October 28, roadmaps will be presented for the four countries that have advanced the most in Eurointegration – Montenegro, Albania, Moldova, and Ukraine, which will contain the next steps, indicative deadlines, and concrete goals in the accession process.
