At least 62 people have died in floods in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, officials announced today.
Authorities stated that 46 people were injured and more than 1,000 houses damaged after three days of heavy rainfall caused flooding in several districts.
Schools were closed today in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, including the capital Lucknow, while rescue teams relocated people from flooded areas to safer locations.
Residents of the affected areas are advised to avoid unnecessary movement through flooded sections and to stay away from rivers, streams, and canals.
Rainfall in that part of India is expected to subside today due to an easing of meteorological conditions over the Bay of Bengal, meteorologists from the regional center in Lucknow reported.
Floods have also affected the eastern state of Odisha, from where more than 75,000 people have been evacuated to safer areas, officials said.
