The ceasefire agreement in Gaza did not stop what a group of experts, engaged by the UN, calls the genocide being carried out by Israel in that territory, according to a new report published today.
They also accused Israeli forces of crimes against humanity, including torture and rape, in the occupied West Bank.
Israel has requested the dissolution of this commission, due to a “disinformation campaign” aimed at “demonizing the State of Israel and portraying its existence as criminal.”
Israel has long criticized the work of this commission and rejects the accusations of genocide in Gaza, as well as the allegations of sexual violence committed by its forces.
The findings of the Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory – whose goal is to document allegations and evidence of crimes in the greatest detail in order to strengthen accountability of perpetrators – could serve prosecutors at the International Criminal Court, or in other judicial systems, in efforts to achieve justice for victims and their families.
In the report published today, it is stated that Israel “continues to commit genocidal acts, with genocidal intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza in whole or in part.”
According to the report, much of the damage resulted from Israel’s deeper incursion into Gaza territory during the ceasefire period.
The Commission states that since October 2025, when the ceasefire was signed, Israeli forces have expanded control from 53 to at least 60 percent of Gaza’s territory.
During that period, as a result of Israeli forces’ actions, at least 196 Palestinians were killed, including 18 women, 32 boys, and 11 girls, the Commission reported.
Israeli soldiers and prison guards are also accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the West Bank, including extermination, torture, rape, other forms of sexual violence, and persecution of civilians.
