Shooting at a high school in the Philippines, at least one person killed

At least one person was killed and four were injured in a shooting at a high school in the south of the Philippines, the local governor announced today.

The shooting was reported in the city of Banga in South Cotabato and follows two similar school shootings that occurred in June, reports Reuters news agency.

The governor of the province, Reinaldo Tamayo, stated that at least one person was killed and four were wounded, but did not provide details about the attacker or the victims.

The police previously confirmed that a shooting had occurred, and the Ministry of Education expressed deep concern.

In June, at least three students were killed and about 20 were injured in an attack at a public high school in Tacloban, where two students opened fire on school grounds.

The Philippines has relatively strict regulations on gun ownership, including background checks and psychological assessment requirements, although illegal firearms remain in circulation.
