Vučić says he expected major progress from the new U.S. administration, but that in reality Serbia has no support from any major power. Let us recall the statements made by ruling party officials about the supposed great successes of their foreign policy:
- Aleksandar Vučić: “Serbia today enjoys greater respect in the world than at any time in its history.” RTS, January 6, 2019.
- Aleksandar Vučić: “They do not have to like Serbia, but today they must respect it.” B92, April 24, 2020.
- Aleksandar Vučić: “I am respected in the world. They do not have to like me, but they respect me and know that I speak the truth.” Pink, December 27, 2021.
- Ana Brnabić: “Serbia today is a respected country, a partner that is engaged with seriously and respectfully.” RTS, February 15, 2022.
- Miloš Vučević: “Serbia has regained international standing and respect that it did not previously have.” Večernje novosti, August 3, 2023.
- Marko Đurić: “I am very satisfied with the visit to Washington that concluded yesterday; relations between Serbia and the United States are being built seriously and steadily and are recording significant growth.” Glas javnosti, December 4, 2025.
From claims of great support and unprecedented prestige, we have arrived at Vučić openly complaining that no one likes him anymore. That he is dishonest has long been clear, but with this kind of lament he has surpassed even himself. I suggest that he address his grievances to those former leaders who once worried about whether he was eating and sleeping, while he will have to account to the citizens of Serbia for a humiliation the country has not seen in modern times.
