Leading political advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump, James Blair and Chris LaCivita, donated to Trump’s presidential library the fee they earned earlier this month for advisory services to the Republic of Srpska (RS), CNN reported.
This move followed after Trump threatened to fire them over a possible conflict of interest, Sarajevo media reported.
At the beginning of the month, Trump announced he would fire Blair and LaCivita if it was determined that their work outside the campaign constituted a conflict of interest.
“They are allowed to work for others, as are all consultants in Washington. I don’t know who else they work for, but I will ask them and, if there is a conflict of interest, they will be fired immediately,” Trump wrote at the time on his social network Truth Social.
CNN further reports that after the New York Post first broke the news about the donations, Blair confirmed the payment on the X platform.
“Yes, it’s true, we donated the entire fee. I love the President and am forever grateful to him for the opportunities he has given me. It is an honor to contribute to preserving his great legacy,” Blair posted.
LaCivita also confirmed the donation to Trump’s library.
“Preserving the legacy and story of Donald Trump is an honor and a logical move,” he wrote.
The New York Times previously reported that the advisory duo traveled to the Balkans, specifically to Banja Luka, ahead of the elections.
According to the Times, Blair and LaCivita “were paid several hundred thousand dollars through a Washington law firm, which was hired by the government of the Republic of Srpska to advise them on election matters.”
The exact amount of the donation was not disclosed.
James Blair leads Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., and is responsible for the president’s midterm election strategy, while Chris LaCivita is a senior adviser in the same organization.
