One crew member has died and three are missing from a cargo ship that caught fire today in the Black Sea off the coast of Romania.
Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the ship is “severely damaged, has capsized, and there is an imminent risk of sinking.”
According to media reports, the ship was hit by a drone.
The “Horiv” ship, sailing under the flag of the Comoros Islands, is burning 13 nautical miles east of the port of Constanța, according to the Romanian Maritime Administration. The crew consisted of 10 Ukrainian nationals and three Azerbaijanis.
The vessel tracking website “MarineTraffic” shows that the ship departed from Turkey on October 21st, heading to the Romanian port of Sulina.
This month, drones have attacked seven cargo ships off the Black Sea coasts of Romania and Bulgaria, heightening fears of the war in Ukraine spilling over.
