French President Emmanuel Macron has rejected the resignation of Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez and asked him to change police working methods, following major unrest during protests that have shaken the country, France 24 reported today.
“The Minister of the Interior submitted his resignation to the President on Sunday. Given that it is currently necessary to ensure continuity in the leadership of the security forces, the President has rejected the resignation,” the statement from the Élysée Palace said.
Macron sharply criticized the failures that, in his words, led to the violent protests.
He asked Minister Nuñez to “take all necessary steps to ensure transparency regarding the failures in planning and intelligence work that led to the violence” and to “introduce new operational methods for the security forces” to resolve the crisis, the statement added.
