Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced today that Iran is not engaged in negotiations with the United States, the semi-official Iranian news agency Mehr reported.
„We are not currently in negotiations with the US, but messages are being exchanged through intermediaries,“ Araghchi said.
He added that some countries are still working to pave the way for the resumption of negotiations.
„However, negotiations cannot continue until the US ends its violations of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and takes steps to compensate for the breaches it has committed,“ the Iranian foreign minister said.
He stated that the ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman concern the establishment of a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, and added that the existing routes will be replaced by new ones.
„Talks with Oman do not mean that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened. An agreement may be reached, but the reopening of the strait depends on other conditions conveyed through intermediaries,“ Araghchi said.
