At least 10 people were killed last night in Kyiv when Russia launched a large number of missiles at the city, damaging civilian infrastructure.
Residents took shelter in metro stations after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials issued the first warnings about the attack.
In the attack in Kyiv, 11 people were killed and 20 residential buildings were damaged, according to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
The head of Kyiv’s Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, stated that 54 people were injured, including two children, and that 30 locations across the city were damaged.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called on Ukraine’s allies to strengthen the country’s air defense after what he described as a „night of horror“ in the capital.
Sybiha rejected attempts to justify the Russian attacks as retaliation for recent Ukrainian strikes and added that Ukraine is exercising its right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations (UN) Charter, while Russia remains the aggressor.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called on residents of the capital to remain in shelters due to the „intense enemy attack.“
Damage was reported to hotels, residential buildings, private homes, and other locations.
Attacks were recorded in a dozen parts of the city, according to officials.
