US Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff is expected to meet today in St. Petersburg with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss proposals for ending the years-long conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
These talks come a day after Whitcoff’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo.
Kyiv had previously accused the US of withholding key intelligence, which Washington denied, but Zelensky stated yesterday that the exchange of intelligence with the US regarding Russian missile attacks is now functioning, according to the BBC.
Zelensky and his European allies stated that it is now up to Russia to respond to the proposals agreed upon in Oslo, when Whitcoff meets with Putin on Wednesday.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who also participated in the talks, said that progress had been made regarding the peace proposals, but did not provide details and warned that patience would be required.
Whitcoff did not attend the joint press conference after the talks in the Norwegian capital.
An unnamed US official said that the talks were very constructive and that there is a high degree of alignment at the working level between the US, Ukraine, and Europe regarding the next steps.
