Iran planned an assassination attempt on Yair Netanyahu, the eldest son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to American television channel Newsmax.
According to an unnamed source, the Israeli intelligence service learned last December of an Iranian plot to assassinate Yair, who was then living in Florida, and warned U.S. authorities.
The Newsmax source said it is believed that Iranian agents were already on the ground in the Miami area, surveilling Yair’s residence and tracking him.
Yair, who was accompanied at all times by Israeli security, was told to leave immediately and the assassination was prevented.
He immediately returned to Israel, where he now lives.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that some media outlets had known about the Iranian plot for months, but publication of such information was prohibited by military censorship.
Netanyahu stated on Monday that Iran had tried to kill one of his sons.
Netanyahu has three children, two sons and a daughter.
