More than 100 homes have burned and hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate in a fire in the city of Drammen in southern Norway.
The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection announced today that this is the largest fire of its kind in the country’s modern history.
The fire broke out in southern Norway in a house in the city of Drammen around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, police reported. The fire then spread through the neighborhood into nearby forests. Drammen is located about 34 kilometers southwest of Oslo.
Firefighters continued their efforts today to bring the blaze under control.
Public broadcaster NRK reported that hundreds of people have gone to an evacuation center.
No residents have been reported missing, police stated, adding that the cause of the fire is not yet known.
