North Korea announced today that it has successfully tested a new torpedo system that uses artificial intelligence for target detection and guidance.
The North Korean news agency reported that the weapon tested on Thursday was a “high-speed, precision-guided” torpedo system called “Zam-2.0,” without providing details about the artificial intelligence system used.
The report adds that the test confirmed the operation of the weapon’s propulsion systems, which have been developed through more than 180 tests over the past five years.
In recent weeks, North Korea has intensified the display of its weaponry, including the first tests of missiles launched from underwater in nearly three years, as leader Kim Jong Un now shifts his focus to naval capabilities.
North Korea also tested hypersonic missile systems of various ranges on September 20 and October 3, in an effort to expand its arsenal of weapons to overcome missile defenses in South Korea and Japan.
