President of the European Council Antonio Costa will begin a multi-week tour of European Union member states tomorrow with a visit to Slovakia, focusing on the Union’s upcoming budget, with the enlargement process also among the topics of discussion.
This year’s tour will allow Costa to hear the opinions of heads of state or government, which will help in preparing for upcoming European Councils and international summits, according to a statement.
„Defense, competitiveness, enlargement, and support for Ukraine will be part of my discussions with European leaders during my upcoming Capitals Tour. But the next long-term EU budget will certainly stand out,“ Costa stated.
He noted that these exchanges of views provide an important „comprehensive overview of the priorities and expectations of member states, ensuring that the work of the European Council continues to reflect European reality.“
Costa will meet tomorrow with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal.
The following day, August 26, he will visit Riga and Vilnius, where he will hold talks with Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.
On Thursday, August 27, in Prague, he will meet with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
Costa will visit most EU member states by September 17.
