After new Russian airstrikes on Kyiv and other cities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed frustration with the behavior of Western allies, calling on them to speed up the delivery of urgently needed missiles for Patriot air defense systems and other weaponry, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reports.
„We need answers to this Russian terror, real answers from the world,“ Zelensky said in his evening video address, after Moscow launched, as he stated, 35 cruise and ballistic missiles and sent nearly 190 drones to Ukrainian cities.
„Everyone in the world must see that Russia, by prolonging the war, is learning new ways to kill and will certainly not stop with Ukrainians alone,“ Zelensky said.
„The world has Patriot missiles. What is important now is for our partners to make a political decision, a decision to ensure the necessary deliveries,“ Zelensky said.
As he pointed out, the United States knows what Ukraine needs, and Europe knows what it needs as well.
Zelensky’s comments came after Russia targeted the Ukrainian capital with ballistic missiles, while U.S. President Donald Trump apparently once again showed hesitation in granting Kyiv licenses to produce Patriot missiles.
Emergency services in Kyiv reported that at least nine people were killed in the Russian missile attack, while dozens were injured, including at least four children.
Zelensky said that only one out of 27 ballistic missiles was intercepted, mainly because there were not enough missiles for the Patriot systems Ukraine already possesses.
