French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated today that Ukraine will send reinforcements to help extinguish fires in France.
Nunez said on the social network X that after discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart Ivan Vyhivskyi, 70 members of the civil protection service and ten vehicles will be deployed „in the coming days“ to strengthen the resources already on the ground.
The French minister welcomed the show of cooperation and thanked Ukraine for this assistance, which he described as a sign of „international solidarity.“
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently told his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that Ukraine is ready to help France in the fight against the devastating forest fires raging on its territory, particularly by sending specialists for this type of disaster.
The Ukrainian president added that during their conversation, Macron mentioned the issue of fires in France.
„Ukraine is always ready to help those who have supported us during these years of fighting against Russian aggression. I offered France our assistance. Our specialists can join the efforts to extinguish the fires,“ Zelensky added.
For days, a massive forest fire has been raging in southwestern France, near Bordeaux, where a large number of residents have been evacuated, a significant number of firefighters and soldiers have been mobilized, and several tens of thousands of hectares of land have been destroyed in an area known for its vineyards.
