Ukraine has struck a major refinery deep inside Russia with drones, Ukrainian military officials announced today.
The Ukrainian General Staff stated that its forces overnight attacked the oil refining and petrochemical complex of the company Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat in Russia’s Republic of Bashkortostan, causing a fire at the facility.
The complex, located southeast of Moscow, about 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is one of Russia’s largest oil refining facilities, the Ukrainian General Staff said in a post on the social network Telegram.
The facility processes up to 74 million barrels of oil annually and produces gasoline, diesel fuel, and other products.
The Governor of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, stated only that two civilians were injured in the drone attack and that it caused a fire in the industrial zone of Salavat.
