North Korea announced today that it had tested a medium-range ballistic missile which it claims has the ability to maneuver during flight, allowing it to evade the missile defenses of South Korea and Japan.
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said that her brother oversaw the missile test, describing the missile as strategic, which indicates that it is also intended to carry nuclear weapons.
She also stated that the missile can change its flight path at low altitudes and possesses, as she said, certain artificial intelligence capabilities that should make it very difficult to intercept.
The Japanese military stated that the missile fell into the sea outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
The South Korean military, which often accuses North Korea of exaggerating its military capabilities, has not yet commented on Kim Yo Jong’s claims.
