Five people were killed in an Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip overnight, according to Shifa Hospital, where the bodies of the victims were taken.
Four of the victims were women. The hospital stated that among them were a mother and daughter, who were Christians and members of the minority community in Gaza. For this reason, condolences were expressed by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa.
A large fire broke out at the site of the attack. The hospital reported that the search continues for people who, according to reports, are trapped under the rubble.
The Israeli military has not commented on the attack, stating that it is verifying the information.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks since the ceasefire with Hamas was reached almost a year ago have killed at least 1,439 Palestinians.
United Nations agencies and independent experts generally consider their data reliable. The ministry, however, does not specify how many of the dead were civilians and how many were members of armed groups.
Israel states that the targets of its attacks are Hamas and other armed groups that pose a threat, and that the attacks are a response to ceasefire violations, including occasional attacks.
