King Charles clarifies the status of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan after their return to Britain

British King Charles III reiterated today that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will continue to be inactive members of the royal family following their return to Britain from the United States.

In a letter sent on behalf of the King to senior state officials, it is stated that the two will continue to refrain from using royal titles as they have done since stepping back from official duties in 2020. Any work for humanitarian organizations they undertake will be carried out in a private capacity, and decisions regarding operational security are matters for the appropriate police agencies, the letter states.

The letter was sent by the Lord Chamberlain, the highest official at the court, to senior officials in the government and military, as well as the King’s personal representatives across the country.

“To avoid creating confusion, the King has instructed that this information be shared,” the letter states.

Although the letter merely confirms that the status of Harry and Meghan remains unchanged, the decision to send and publish the letter demonstrates concern among some royal palace observers that their status could allow them to become a kind of parallel court, competing with members of the royal family who actively perform duties.

Six years after breaking with the royal family and moving to California, King Charles’s younger son, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan arrived in England on August 26, where they are expected to settle for an indefinite period, British media have reported.

Their son Archie (7) and daughter Lilibet (5) have been enrolled in a British school.

Harry and Meghan are no longer active members of the royal family and there are no plans for them to return to official duties, it was said at the time.
