The majority of adult Americans believe that Donald Trump is profiting by using his position as president, according to a poll by AP and the NORC Center, which shows that about 60 percent of respondents think this constitutes unethical or illegal behavior.
According to the results, about six out of ten adult Americans (sixty percent) believe that he is either profiting illegally or doing something unethical but not illegal, while only 20 percent think the Republican is doing nothing wrong. About 40 percent of respondents believe that Trump is doing something illegal, the poll states.
The survey also shows that more than half of respondents believe that since returning to the White House, Trump has prioritized his personal financial interests much more, and about 54 percent think that friends and family are also benefiting. Only about a quarter of respondents believe that he largely prioritizes the country’s interests.
AP reports that Trump lifted a self-imposed ban on his family making private business deals and has launched new crypto ventures, including reported earnings of more than a billion dollars in a mandatory financial disclosure. It is also stated that some of his ventures received large investments from foreign sources after the election.
The AP-NORC poll was conducted on a sample of 2,140 adults between September 24 and 28, the agency reports.
