Two men were charged today in the United Kingdom with criminal offenses against national security, in connection with an incident that occurred last month at the Fairford military base in England, which is operated by the United States.
The British prosecution announced that Mohmed Abdulkarim and Numan Esgir have been charged under the National Security Act.
Abdulkarim is accused of providing assistance to a foreign intelligence service, while Esgir is charged with entering a prohibited area with the intent to act to the detriment of the United Kingdom.
The United States has used the Fairford base to carry out attacks on Iran.
A large number of residents were evacuated from their homes near the base on September 27, while armed police officers and military bomb disposal experts searched the rural area.
British Prime Minister Andrew Burnham stated earlier that the security incident was “almost certainly” organized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
