Today, United Nations Day (UN) is being observed around the world, the day when the charter of this international organization was signed 81 years ago.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on X that the UN has “for 81 years resolved disputes through diplomacy and law, worked to eradicate poverty and hunger, promoted human rights, and delivered life-saving aid to people facing war, displacement, and other disasters.”
“The UN is needed today more than ever. We will continue to work on strengthening the UN so that it serves people and faces the challenges of our time,” his post reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia also congratulated UN Day on X, stating that “in a world where no major challenge recognizes state borders, the need for dialogue, cooperation, and joint solutions is more important than ever.”
“United Nations Day reminds us of the idea that has been at the core of this organization for more than eight decades—that peace and security are preserved through dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law,” the post adds.
The MFA stated that Serbia remains “consistently committed to multilateralism and the United Nations as its central pillar.”
“Respect for the principles of the UN Charter, the sovereign equality of states, territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes remains the foundation of our actions on the international stage,” the post concludes.
