According to a report by the British Financial Times, the US has threatened to suspend the weapons procurement system intended for Ukraine in order to pressure Kyiv to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.
FT, citing European officials, states that the message from the US included “threats to suspend intelligence sharing and the PURL mechanism (Ukraine’s Priority Needs List) for the procurement of American weapons for Ukraine.” The report adds that the American threats were also directed at European capitals.
In the same context, US President Donald Trump earlier announced an “energy truce” between Russia and Ukraine, which, according to him, took effect immediately. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is still waiting for details of the agreement, but stated: “There have been attacks on our energy sector. An attack was just carried out on Thermal Power Plant No. 5 in Kharkiv.”
Zelensky also stated that Russia carried out more than 200 attacks this week on facilities for the production and transmission of electricity in Ukraine, and that more than 150 people were killed and over 700 injured in these attacks. He confirmed that Ukraine is ready not to attack Russian energy infrastructure if Russia does the same.
