Media outlets CNN, MSNOW and Politico announced today that they have notified the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump that they are initiating legal proceedings over the denial of access to the White House.
“The White House, without prior notice or appropriate procedure, revoked our journalists’ accreditations because it did not like our reporting,” these media outlets stated in a joint announcement published on the X network.
They point out that, if this is not challenged, it endangers press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism.
All three media outlets had indicated the possibility of legal action, emphasizing that they would vigorously defend their rights guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Trump announced on Friday that CNN, MSNOW and Politico would no longer be allowed to report from the White House due to what he considers unfavorable reporting. Journalists were denied access on Saturday.
Trump said that CNN, MSNOW and Politico “‘report’ through fake news” and stated that “other fake news media will follow them.”
The ban would undermine the tradition of five television outlets constantly traveling with the president and following his every move, so that, as they say, reporting would be as independent as possible and so that Americans who elected him and the world would have insight into what he is doing.
