Russian officials: Two people killed in Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow region

At least two people were killed and six injured in last night’s large Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region, said Governor Andrey Vorobyov.

Vorobyov said that 249 drones were shot down and that fires broke out in several residential buildings. A local warehouse also caught fire.

In the capital Moscow, an oil refinery was damaged and flight restrictions are in place at two airports.

In a post on Telegram, Vorobyov said that a 44-year-old woman was killed in Sofino when a drone hit a three-story building, and five more people were injured, including two children, reports the BBC.

In the Orekhovo-Zuevo district, an elderly man was killed when a private house was hit, said the regional governor.

Videos have appeared on social media showing explosions in the sky last night in the Moscow region, and a warehouse on fire. The BBC states it could not independently verify these videos.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that a drone hit a building near one of the boulevards in the capital and that a facility at the oil refinery was damaged. He previously said that 152 drones heading toward Moscow were shot down.

Moscow’s largest airport, Sheremetyevo, warned passengers that temporary restrictions are in place, while at Vnukovo airport in the capital all arrivals and departures have been halted.

Earlier, a Ukrainian official said that on Saturday seven people, including two children, were killed in Russian attacks on Kyiv and the Sumy region.
