US Attacks Iran After Tehran Targets Ship in the Strait of Hormuz

The United States (US) attacked Iran early this morning after Tehran targeted a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, causing the vessel to catch fire and forcing the crew to abandon it.

Iran responded with attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), some of which, such as Kuwait, have reported the incidents.

The US Central Command stated that around 140 targets were struck during the attack, including rocket and drone launch positions, ammunition depots, communications equipment, and other facilities.

The attacks „diminish Iran’s ability to target civilian mariners and commercial vessels freely passing through the strait,“ the statement said.

The new cross-attacks in the Persian Gulf come just days after US President Donald Trump indicated that the interim agreement in the war with Iran was „over.“

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote on social media that „Iran made a bad choice and is now paying the price,“ to which Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded that „the era of unilateral agreements is over.“

„We told you: keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking at the door,“ Ghalibaf wrote on X.

The UAE today warned the public of an impending missile and drone attack, while explosions were heard in nearby Qatar.

Missile attack warnings sounded in Bahrain, where the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet is based.

Iran claims to have attacked other locations, which have not been confirmed.

Tehran attacked a Cyprus-flagged container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, with one crew member reported missing, according to the US Central Command.

The attack was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center, which stated that the ship was traveling along a route following the coast of Oman.

The Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard stated that several vessels „ignored our warnings and instructions to change course and continue along the approved route,“ and that one of them was „hit with a warning shot and stopped.“

Iranian media reported on US attacks in a number of southern provinces, including Bushehr, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, and the provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, while Tehran reported that there were also attacks in the western province of Lorestan.
