The popularity of U.S. President Donald Trump has fallen to 32 percent, the lowest level since the start of his political career, as distrust toward the war in the Middle East spreads even among Republicans in Congress, according to a new Ipsos poll, reported by the British agency Reuters.
The poll, conducted over four days and concluded on Sunday, shows that 73 percent of Republicans approve of Donald Trump’s performance, compared to 82 percent in a poll conducted a week earlier. His popularity was then at 35 percent.
Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, promising to curb inflation and end foreign wars.
In a poll conducted just hours after his first inauguration, Trump enjoyed the support of 47 percent of Americans.
Only 17 percent of respondents in the new poll approve of his handling of the cost of living, the main issue Americans say will determine their vote in the November 3 election, in which Donald Trump’s Republicans will defend their slim majority in Congress.
Republican dissatisfaction with this issue has been rising since Trump launched the war against Iran in February, which caused a sharp increase in gasoline and diesel prices.
For the first time, Republicans who disapprove of his handling of the cost of living now outnumber those who approve, by 51 percent to 44 percent.
The poll was conducted online among 1,277 adult Americans nationwide.
