Iran has attacked air bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates after the United States struck Iranian positions in the Strait of Hormuz, reports the British Guardian (The Guardian).
Several hours later, Iranian state television reported that a supertanker caught fire after hitting two naval mines while attempting to pass through the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
No details were provided about the ship itself or information about its crew.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that other ships violating their rules „will meet the same fate,“ emphasizing that compliance with regulations for passage through the Strait of Hormuz is mandatory.
The latest American attacks on Iran occurred at the end of July.
The most recent exchange of fire began late last night with an American strike on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
„I can confirm that U.S. forces earlier today targeted two Iranian launchers on Larak Island,“ said a U.S. official, according to the Guardian.
„It was observed that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were preparing to launch missiles with naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz,“ he added.
The IRGC stated that several soldiers and civilians were killed and wounded in the American attack, and that Tehran will retaliate.
