Ukraine Strikes Russian Industrial Site in Samara, Russia Sends 152 Drones to Ukraine

In a major Ukrainian attack today, industrial infrastructure in the southwestern Russian region of Samara was hit, according to a Russian official.

The head of the region’s namesake capital, Samara, Ivan Noskov, said that the air force repelled a large missile attack and that localized damage was inflicted on industrial sites in the city. He also stated that medical assistance was provided to those injured in the attack, but gave no further details.

Ukraine has intensified long-range air strikes on Russian military infrastructure and energy facilities with the aim of reducing Russia’s war revenues and seeking to ensure that Russia also feels the consequences of the invasion, now in its fifth year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv’s forces carried out an attack on the Progress Center in Samara, which operates under the Russian space agency Roscosmos and is involved in the production of rocket technology and electronics.

According to him, domestically produced Flamingo missiles were used in the attack to strike a site located about 900 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Although most Ukrainian attacks are within a 200-kilometer radius, its long-range attacks have significantly intensified this year. There were three times as many such attacks in July as in January, according to the independent conflict monitoring body ACLED. With repeated attacks deep into Russian territory, Ukraine has forced the Russian military to stretch its air defenses over a much wider area, writes AP.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that it had shot down 598 Ukrainian drones over 19 Russian regions, as well as over the Black and Azov Seas and the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. 

Two people, including a nine-year-old child, were injured when a private home in the town of Shatura in the Moscow region was hit in a Ukrainian drone attack, said local governor Andrey Vorobyov. 

On the other hand, in a Russian attack on a residential building in southeastern Ukraine today, a three-month-old baby was killed and 11 people were injured, according to local officials. 

Drones struck the city of Marhanets, said Oleksandr Hanža, head of the Military Administration of Dnipropetrovsk region. 

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it targeted warehouses and infrastructure in the Ukrainian ports of Odesa, Izmail, and Yuzhny.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia sent 152 drones into Ukraine today, of which 124 were destroyed.
